Pastor’s Corner

PastorNelsonWe had a great week’s end and we also had a great week’s beginning last Saturday and Sunday.

Let me explain- the week’s end is always Saturday and the Week’s beginning is always Sunday.  It consistently irks me when people talk about the week-end being Saturday and Sunday.  They fail to realize that the Lord instituted the gathering together of his people on the first day of the week-Sunday (Acts 20:7 and 1 Cor. 16:1-2)  I do not like people referring to Sunday as the week-end.  That fits in with those who want to negate the necessity of His people gathering together on the first day of the week at Church to worship the Lord together.  Thank God that He has chosen for us to begin the week with Him and thus put Him first in our lives.

Now, back to what I started to say, “We had a great week’s end last Saturday.”  The Ladies of Harvest Baptist Church had a special birthday lunch for my dear wife, Guyla, last Saturday at Priscilla Musgrave’s house.  It was Guyla’s 85th birthday that day.  Guyla and others told me of the blessing they had that day at Priscilla’s home.  I thank Priscilla and the church ladies for honoring my wife this way.  THANK you.  And let me add, My dear wife has been a great wife all these almost sixty years we have been together serving the Lord.

Sunday was a great beginning for the month of March.  I elected not to preach either service since I had just had cataract surgery.  Pastor Josh preached both services and did a very good job.  I received a blessing from the Word as I listened to him preach.  In the morning he spoke on Daniel 4, showing how God dealt with Nebuchadnezzar to humble him so he recognized God as the Ruler over men.  Great Message!  Also Sandy Childers sang a solo that was a blessing-”Bow the Knee”-and that fit very well with the message.  Nebuchadnezzar had to bow the knee.  It reminded me of the story quite a number of years ago about Bishop Pike, the Episcopalian Bishop in San Francisco.  He denied the deity of Christ and stood against the Word of God.  He died in the wilderness while hiking in the wilderness of Judea in Israel.  He had fallen in that rugged terrain,  and when they found his body he was on his knees looking up.  So he, too, finally bowed the knee as did Nebuchadnezzar.

We are looking forward to next Sunday.  Let’s all be present and have the privilege of meditating together on the Word of God in Sunday School and in Church.  Let’s be praying that God will use our services to win souls to Christ.

Praise God that we are seeing a number of young people coming each Wednesday to the youth activity.

I am thankful we had visitors  last Sunday and trust we will all bring others with us this  coming Sunday. Do be praying for our Revival-Evangelistic meetings with Evangelist Gary Gillmore, beginning Sunday, March 15.  Also, do not forget our All-Church Prayer Meeting on Saturday, March 14, at 8:00 A.M.  The time is changed for March 8, because the whole family is involved in the Prayer Meeting.  The Men’s Prayer Meeting for this Saturday, March 7, will go forward at the same time as usual, 7:00 A.M.

Have a great week this week;  and let’s have a good week’s beginning next Sunday as we worship together as a corporate body at Church.

Highlights

Dear Church Family,

What a beautiful to sight to look out at the landscape transformed by the white snow. As I look out the window preparing for tomorrow I can’t stop thinking about the sacrifice that Jesus made for me to make my sin as white as snow. I pray that you will begin thinking these thoughts today and prepare your heart for tomorrow’s service. We have a very special service planned tomorrow. Our singing will be focused on the sacrifice that Christ made for us on the cross. Maria Barta, one of our newest members, will be singing one of my favorite songs tomorrow, The Look (the lyrics for this song can be found at the bottom of this post). We will conclude the service with our Sacrifice Sunday Offering. In this offering you will be asked to place your financial, as well as time, sacrifice to Christ. It will be a wonderful time of focus on the work of our precious Savior.

I understand that the snow has made it difficult for many to get out; however, I believe that tomorrow’s service is extremely important for our church. We have a quick fellowship after the service tomorrow followed by a presentation of the plans for our new auditorium. If our church is going to move forward on this building project I believe it is vital for us all to be on the same page. We are planing the future of our church tomorrow. We spent the entire month of January building up to this service. I believe this is a critical time for our church body. We have the opportunity to gather together and focus on the sacrifice that Christ made for us on the cross. I pray that you will be here tomorrow to worship together with the body of Christ.

In Christ,

Pastor Josh

The Look

I saw one hanging on a tree in agony and blood

Who fixed His loving eyes on me as near His cross I stood

And never till my dying breath will I forget that look

It seemed to charge me with His death though not a word He spoke

My conscience felt and owned the guilt and plunged me in despair

I saw my sins His blood had spilt and helped to nail Him there

But with a second look He said “I freely all forgive

this blood is for your ransom paid; I died that you might live”

Thus while His death my sin displays for all the world to view

Such is the mystery of grace; it seals my pardon too

With pleasing grief and mournful joy my spirit now is filled

That I should such a life destroy yet live by Him I killed

CHORUS

Forever etched upon my mind is the look of Him who died

The Lamb I crucified and now my life will sing the praise

Of pure atoning grace that looked on me and gladly

took my place
