PastorNelsonWe had a great time at Harvest Baptist Church last Sunday.

Our granddaughter, Alana Carithers, played some violin solos as special music. They were a blessing to us all.

One great feature last Sunday was the attendance of Anne Kroeker, Wil Kroeker’s mother. She is a member of Harvest Baptist Church but has been gone for eight months, living with her daughter in Kansas. The family decided she would do much better in Colorado, so she came back home to live again with Wil and Terrey. I did not expect to see her in church. But here she came, in her new wheelchair, and was with us for the morning service. She said she really enjoyed being back home with her church family. Welcome, Back, Anne!!!

We all need to pray much for Jan Waters. Her recent scans have shown the cancer has advanced. Pray that she will know the treatment she should take.

This morning my wife and I were reading in Exodus 5 about the taskmasters’ cruel treatment of the Israelites. The officers of the children of Israel went directly to Pharaoh to complain (Ex. 5:6-15-16) There is no doubt they had reason to complain. But they found that Pharaoh had no sympathy for them (Ex. 5:17-19). As we look at it from a distance, we realize the officers of the children of Israel went to the wrong person to present their problem. They should have let Moses speak for them to Pharaoh. Therefore they should have gone to Moses rather than the King of Egypt. Actually the one we all should go to is the Lord.

“What a friend we have in Jesus , all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to god in prayer!
O, what peace we often forfeit, O, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to god i prayer.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged. Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus know our every weakness. Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge—take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer.
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee. Take it to the Lord in prayer.”

What a blessing to go directly to the Lord with every problem and care! He is our Great High Priest Who “was in al points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
(Heb. 4:15 (b) & 16).

We will look to see you with us next Sunday at Harvest Baptist Church to worship Him together.

PastorNelsonLast Sunday our attendance suffered because of the huge Spring snow storm. We are praising God for the snow because we certainly needed the moisture. Those of us who did make it to Church had a great time of blessing from the Lord as we heard the Bible preached and taught.

Now we look forward to next Sunday. As Pastor I encourage you to join with us in public worship of our blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Next Sunday we will have a special blessing because our Granddaughter, Alana Carithers, wil be with us in the service. She and her family have come out west from Virginia to spend this past week visiting us . Alana is an excellent violinist, a member of the Richmond Symphony in Richmond, VA. She will bless us with violin special music next Sunday in the Morning Service.

This past week the Colorado House of Representatives voted to abolish the death penalty in our State. Should we be concerned? Yes, as Bible Believers we need to learn what the Bible teaches about the subject, The Death Penalty. As a Bible Believer I realize that the Bible does teach that a nation should practice the death penalty for those who have committed murder.

Genesis 9:6 states: “Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall His blood be shed: for in the image of God made He man.”

This verse teaches that the person who murders another person should pay the price of death for the crime. The one who sheds the blood of another man is actually saying he hates what he sees in that man. But the bible says that man is created in the image of god. So when one murders another he is venting hatred against God.

Genesis 9 introduces a new dispensation in God’s plan for the ages. This new age introduced in Genesis 9 is the Dispensation of Human Government. This is the third dispensation, and it follows the Flood. The Flood was God’s judgment that ended the Second Dispensation. This Age of Human Government is the one in which God gives man the right of man’s government over man. The judicial taking of life is the highest function of human government. And it has been ordained by God.

We are still realizing the fact of human government today. This matter of the judicial taking of life was given for man’s protection. Murder is wrong and must, according to the Bible, be dealt with by using the death penalty. According to the Bible, the one who sheds man’s blood must himself also die.

There are those who say that the death penalty does not deter crime. Again, this is contrary to what the bible teaches.
Note Ecclesiastes 8:11: “Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.”
Note also Deuteronomy 13:10-11 where the death penalty is given for false prophets in Israel.

Then there are those who say that the New Testament is a book of grace and therefore does not teach the death penalty. It is true that the death penalty is not a New Testament prescription for false prophets. But the New Testament does teach that the death penalty remains today as the judicial penalty for murder. Jesus Himself stated: “…for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.” (Matt. 27:52) Romans 13 instructs believers to respect governmental authority, even to the point where a policeman is referred to as “the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. (v. 4). Speaking of the governmental authorities that carry out the police protection of society, Romans 13:4 also states that the authority “beareth not the sword in vain.” Therefore we believers should each let our Senators know what we believe is right for our State according to the Bible.

Let’s walk faithfully according to the Bible.

We will look to see you in the services this Sunday.

Teen Camp June 8-12th

Posted by admin On April - 14 - 2009

I will never forget my many summers at camp. I made many of the most important decisions of my life during camp. Camp is a wonderful time to get away from the world and all its distractions and focus on God. I strongly encourage every teenager to attend camp this summer.

This summer we will be attending Camp on Wheels. The camp is located in the beautiful White Mountains of Alpine, Arizona (Yes, Arizona does have mountains). The theme for camp is Expedition West. In 1805, two men set out on a dangerous expedition to the Western Territory. They would experience many hazards along the way. Join both explorers as they tackle the Grizzly Ball, canoeing, archery, disc-golf, mountain biking, table tennis, box hockey, basketball, and The Climbing Wall. Compete throughout the week to help your explorer successfully complete the arduous Expedition West!

Activities

  • Disc-Golf
  • Yard Golf
  • Canoeing
  • Mountain Biking
  • Archery
  • Hiking
  • Basketball
  • Table Tennis
  • Mini-rink Hockey

  • The Cost for Camp is $175 (almost half what camp cost last year).
    • This price includes a $25 registration fee due when you register online or turn your registration in to me.
    • The remaining $150 is due when you arrive at camp.
    • If you feel like you can’t afford this please speak with me and I will attempt to get financial help. Please don’t let the price of camp keep you away from a great blessing.
  • You can register for camp in two ways.
  • You can get more information by

I believe that every teenager needs to get away from the world and it’s pulls and come to camp. This is a place where they can focus completely on God without the distractions of school, sports practices, music, TV, movies, internet, and even some friends just to name a few. Each teenager is given a Godly counselor for the week who has been trained to help them have a good time but more importantly to grow in whatever way God directs. Who knows what God has in store for you at camp.

PastorNelson
We had a great day last Sunday, Easter.

In the Morning Service, the children of our Sunday School presented a program about the Empty Tomb.  They did a great job in making the Resurrection of Christ a reality for us.  What a blessing it is to meditate on the truth of Christ’s Resurrection.  What does His resurrection guarantee us?

1.  That He is the Son of God.
Romans 1:4    Vs. 3 speaks of  God’s Son, “Jesus Christ our Lord.”  Then vs. 4 states that He is “declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:”

2.  That He justifies sinners who believe in Christ.
Romans 4:25   “Who was   delivered for our offences (that was the result of the crucifixion), and was raised again for our justification.”   The note on this verse in the Scofield Bible reads:   “…That He was raised and exalted to God’s right hand, ‘now to appear in the presence of God for us’ (Hebrews 9:24), is the token that our sins are gone, that His work for us has the Divine approbation and that we, for whom He suffered, are completely justified.”

3.  That there will be a judgment day.
Acts 17:31  “Because He hath appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in righteousness by that man Whom He hath ordained;  whereof He hath given assurance unto all men, in that He hat raised Him from the dead.”

Last Sunday morning I preached on John 11:25-26 where we read that Christ said:  “I am the resurrection and the life…”  I really did not get very far in teaching those verses.  So I have decided to spend more time preaching on John 11.  Next Sunday I will again be in the same chapter going into more depth in John 11.  What a great chapter of the Bible is John 11! !

Last Sunday night Pastor Josh preached a great message from Ephesians 1.  The last verse of Ephesians 1 states that the Church is “His body, the fullness of Him that filleth all  in all.”  What a privilege it is to be part of a local Church living for the Lord and thus serving Him.

Let me encourage you to be back with us again next Sunday for a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Also let me request that you pray for the Dan Brock family who live in Littleton.  Dan has been the Administrator of Silver State Christian School  They are right now undergoing a severe trial.  We must pray that God will bless and that His will will be done.  Pray also for Jan Waters n our church tat God will perform His will in her body as she deals with cancer.  We are going to miss Dave and Shirley Ater who have gone back eat to help their family there.

PastorNelsonWe look forward to next Sunday, Easter.  This should be a most important day of the year.  All that we believe hinges on the truth of Jesus’ resurrection.   This Sunday (Easter) we will have a short program in the Morning Service presented by our children in the Sunday School.  It will add to the blessing of our service on this Sunday.  I encourage all of our people to be present this Easter.

Next Sunday night we will have The Lord’s Supper following the Evening Service.  It is important for believers to celebrate the Lord’s Supper for it is that which we now do in remembrance of Him.   I consider it a must in my life that I be preset for The Lord’s Supper so I can be scripturally living with the blessing of the Lord.

I encourage you to invite friends to come with you this Sunday for the Morning Service.   People, who do not usually attend church, often will attend a church service on Easter Sunday. This would be a good time to invite friends to come with you to church.

May you all have a blessed Easter Season.  And may we see souls being saved.  By the way, we have learned that Priscilla Musgrave led a young lady to the Lord yesterday.  Amen! That is what our Christ life is al about—being a witness so that we can win souls to Christ.

Yours and His,

Pastor Nelson
