Pastor’s Corner

PastorNelsonWe thought summer was here this last week. But it is certainly much cooler this week. However, we can praise God for the rain—something that has been greatly needed.

We had a blessed time at Harvest Baptist church last Sunday. After the morning service we had Dinner on the Grounds. I mean it was literally “on the grounds.” The tables were set up outside and we enjoyed a great meal together in the Spring-Like sunshine of the lat day of May.

My wife and I thank you for all the cards we received for our Sixtieth Anniversary. We appreciate you members and friends of Harvest Baptist Church. Thanks for your kindness to us. Our statement concerning this is 2 Cor. 4:5 “For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus sake.”

In the Morning Service Sandy Childers sang a beautiful solo. Then we had the Afternoon Service right after the Dinner on the Grounds, at 1:30. Pastor Jeff Musgrave brought a wonderful message to us. My wife and I were greatly were greatly challenged by his message. His wife, Anna, was with him and played the piano for the Service. What a blessing that was. She is a tremendous pianist. we were thrilled with the music.

I am glad to report that Jan Waters received a good report from her doctors yesterday. They believe the chemotherapy is doing what it is supposed to do and that she will be much better. She has another treatment next week.

I am sure you will be thrilled to read this e-mail I received today from Mike Redick, an outstanding missionary to South East Asia. He and his wife, Lisa, are doing a tremendous work all throughout that region. And now his Lisa, will have this unusual opportunity this week. Let’s pray together for Mike and Lisa Redick:

Prayer Warriors:

Lisa is leaving tomorrow for Java, Indonesia. We are asking the LORD to open a new ministry and He has done a miracle. Dr. Paul Choo, Lisa and Pastor Tupas will be meeting with the Vice-King of Java tomorrow to sign a memo of understanding giving us the right to bring in teachers to teach English to their university students from all the outlying islands! We are asking them to house them on campus and it looks as though they are going to agree. Please pray … the meeting is Thursday morning. This is a major breakthrough for us into this, the largest Islamic Country in the world!

Thanks for praying,
Mike Redick

We will look forward to seeing you at Harvest Baptist church for Sunday School and the services next Sunday.

Yours and His,

Ed Nelson, Pastor

Dear Church Family,

What a beautiful to sight to look out at the landscape transformed by the white snow. As I look out the window preparing for tomorrow I can’t stop thinking about the sacrifice that Jesus made for me to make my sin as white as snow. I pray that you will begin thinking these thoughts today and prepare your heart for tomorrow’s service. We have a very special service planned tomorrow. Our singing will be focused on the sacrifice that Christ made for us on the cross. Maria Barta, one of our newest members, will be singing one of my favorite songs tomorrow, The Look (the lyrics for this song can be found at the bottom of this post). We will conclude the service with our Sacrifice Sunday Offering. In this offering you will be asked to place your financial, as well as time, sacrifice to Christ. It will be a wonderful time of focus on the work of our precious Savior.

I understand that the snow has made it difficult for many to get out; however, I believe that tomorrow’s service is extremely important for our church. We have a quick fellowship after the service tomorrow followed by a presentation of the plans for our new auditorium. If our church is going to move forward on this building project I believe it is vital for us all to be on the same page. We are planing the future of our church tomorrow. We spent the entire month of January building up to this service. I believe this is a critical time for our church body. We have the opportunity to gather together and focus on the sacrifice that Christ made for us on the cross. I pray that you will be here tomorrow to worship together with the body of Christ.

In Christ,

Pastor Josh

The Look

I saw one hanging on a tree in agony and blood

Who fixed His loving eyes on me as near His cross I stood

And never till my dying breath will I forget that look

It seemed to charge me with His death though not a word He spoke

My conscience felt and owned the guilt and plunged me in despair

I saw my sins His blood had spilt and helped to nail Him there

But with a second look He said “I freely all forgive

this blood is for your ransom paid; I died that you might live”

Thus while His death my sin displays for all the world to view

Such is the mystery of grace; it seals my pardon too

With pleasing grief and mournful joy my spirit now is filled

That I should such a life destroy yet live by Him I killed

CHORUS

Forever etched upon my mind is the look of Him who died

The Lamb I crucified and now my life will sing the praise

Of pure atoning grace that looked on me and gladly

took my place
