PastorNelsonThis morning I was blessed with this verse: Psalm 112:1 “Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in His commandments.” This man is certainly blessed because he fears the Lord. To fear the Lord is to recognize how great He is and respect and honor Him. The word “fear” carries with it the idea of reverence and worship of the Lord. How important it is for each one of us to recognize that we are answering to the Lord each day of our lies. A genuine fear of the Lord, a reverence love for Him as the holy and yet loving God, is an absolute must in all our lives—something I believe that is missing in far too many Christian lives today. With that fear of the Lord, comes delight in all His commandments. When we love the Lord we find that His commandments are not grievous, (1 John 5:3), but rather they are a delight to us. May we live each day to honor and glorify Him.

Last Sunday we were blessed to have a visiting preacher, Pastor Wayne Williams, Liberty Baptist Tabernacle, Rapids City, SD, speak for us in the Morning Service. It was a wonderful blessing. And to add to the blessing was the fact that his daughter, Karen, sang a great special number. The Williams family were a great blessing to us at Harvest last Sunday. Sunday night I continued my series of messages on Revelation. I will continue these messages on Sunday, August 9.

Last Sunday we had mounted for the first time a “thermometer” showing the progress of our Building Fund. Harvest Baptist church had voted to launch an “Arise and Build” fund raising drive. The goal has been to raise $40,000 in a thirteen month period, June, 2009 through June, 2010. We did have a Building Program to remodel our present building at a cost of $600,000. We have raised $10,000 and we were going to raise the $40,000 so that we would have a total of $50,000. In the first six weeks of this campaign we are ahead of the goal for that period of time. We have been preparing material to present to a Foundation for a grant to care for the additional $550,000 needed. Yesterday, we were informed that Foundation had such serious losses with their funds in the stock market that they could not accept any more applications for grants fat this time. This means we must go to Plan B. And we are now going to be working on a Plan B. We may have to change the thermometer at the front with larger goals and that will challenge our people to pray that funds will come in another way. And we may have to scale back to plan only to finish the “warehouse ” into a large all-purpose room that will serve as an auditorium for services. We must not get the idea that we cannot build. Instead we must move forward to build something to give us more room for our services. Therefore , let us not be sad about this news. Rather may we realize that God’ is sovereign and this is His will for us at this time. Therefore, in His will we must move forward to see Harvest to have more adequate facilities to reach souls for Christ. Let’s all pray that we will know the will of God.

I encourage you all to be out next Sunday to hear Pastor Josh Musgrave in both services. Lord willing, I will be in Alaska preaching. Please back Pastor Josh with your attendance and prayers. I will appreciate your praying for me as I preach in Alaska.

Ann Kroeker went home to be with the Lord this morning. The will be held in Beulah KS on Tuesday, July 28, 2009. Pray for the family.

Yesterday, my wife and I visited Jan Waters. She said that yesterday was her best day in weeks. Keep praying for her. And I ask you to keep Dan and Beverly Stout in your prayers.

Let’s look to God for a great day this coming Sunday.

Yours and His,

Pastor Nelson

Highlights

Dear Church Family,

What a beautiful to sight to look out at the landscape transformed by the white snow. As I look out the window preparing for tomorrow I can’t stop thinking about the sacrifice that Jesus made for me to make my sin as white as snow. I pray that you will begin thinking these thoughts today and prepare your heart for tomorrow’s service. We have a very special service planned tomorrow. Our singing will be focused on the sacrifice that Christ made for us on the cross. Maria Barta, one of our newest members, will be singing one of my favorite songs tomorrow, The Look (the lyrics for this song can be found at the bottom of this post). We will conclude the service with our Sacrifice Sunday Offering. In this offering you will be asked to place your financial, as well as time, sacrifice to Christ. It will be a wonderful time of focus on the work of our precious Savior.

I understand that the snow has made it difficult for many to get out; however, I believe that tomorrow’s service is extremely important for our church. We have a quick fellowship after the service tomorrow followed by a presentation of the plans for our new auditorium. If our church is going to move forward on this building project I believe it is vital for us all to be on the same page. We are planing the future of our church tomorrow. We spent the entire month of January building up to this service. I believe this is a critical time for our church body. We have the opportunity to gather together and focus on the sacrifice that Christ made for us on the cross. I pray that you will be here tomorrow to worship together with the body of Christ.

In Christ,

Pastor Josh

The Look

I saw one hanging on a tree in agony and blood

Who fixed His loving eyes on me as near His cross I stood

And never till my dying breath will I forget that look

It seemed to charge me with His death though not a word He spoke

My conscience felt and owned the guilt and plunged me in despair

I saw my sins His blood had spilt and helped to nail Him there

But with a second look He said “I freely all forgive

this blood is for your ransom paid; I died that you might live”

Thus while His death my sin displays for all the world to view

Such is the mystery of grace; it seals my pardon too

With pleasing grief and mournful joy my spirit now is filled

That I should such a life destroy yet live by Him I killed

CHORUS

Forever etched upon my mind is the look of Him who died

The Lamb I crucified and now my life will sing the praise

Of pure atoning grace that looked on me and gladly

took my place
