Pastor’s Corner

Harvest Baptist Church had a blessed day last Sunday. My dear wife, Guyla, and I have been gone this week—first to Muncie, IN, for the Annual Meeting of the Board of Baptist World Mission. Now we are in Kettering, OH, to participate in a Missions Conference at Grace Baptist Church.

We are praying that you all will have a good day tomorrow at Harvest. Be sure to be in attendance to hear the good messages that Pastor Josh will preach tomorrow. I will rejoice to hear of a good attendance tomorrow.

Yesterday we visited The Creation Museum in the Cincinnati area. It is a great blessing to visit that wonderful place. What a testimony is presented there for the truth of the Bible and the necessity of the Gospel! ! They divide history into these divisions:

Creation—Adam and Eve in Genesis—Genesis 1-2
Condemnation—The sins of humanity beginning with Genesis 3 (the fall of Adam) and then Cain’s
slaying of Abel up to the time of Noah—Genesis 3-5 & the law in Exodus
Catastrophe—Noah and the Flood—Genesis 7-9
Confusion—Tower of Babel on to present time—Genesis 11 and Bible up to present time
Christ’s Birth—coming as the Lam of God, to be sacrificed for the sins Testament up through Rev. 5
Consummation—Christ’s Coming again to set up His Kingdom—Revelation and many other
Scriptures throughout the Word of God

The gospel was clearly presented. I recommend you try to visit that Museum if you are ever in this area. Please keep praying for Jan Waters and Buda Courter. Buda has not been doing well this week .

We look forward to being back with you all for next Sunday.

Yours and His,

Pastor Nelson

Things are moving forward at Harvest Baptist Church.

We had a good day last Sunday. I spoke on The Four and Twenty Elders of Rev. 4. The message was one of prophecy and we looked at the Scriptures concerning the Judgment Seat of Christ and the Marriage Feast of the Lamb. Pastor Josh brought an excellent message from 1 John on Sunday night.

On Monday, Doug Ostby, Paul Nelson, and Pastor Josh worked in the room we are going to remodel to be our All Purpose Auditorium before too long. We had scheduled a work day next Saturday to remove all the dry wall that was on the walls of that room. These three men completed that work of removing the dry wall and the underrated insulation in the walls and getting all of that thrown into our roll-off dumpster. So there will need be no work day Saturday. These three men did a first class job in a short time. Therefore , please cancel your plans to help with work this Saturday.

Next Sunday is to be our BIG day for the fall months. We want to set a record attendance. Therefore we need all of you to work at getting new families and individuals to worship with us this next Sunday morning. Do use the next few days to work at getting out the people on Sunday.

Pray for Wil Kroeker. As he and Terry were leaving the house to come to Church last Sunday morning, he slipped on some ice, fell, and tore the rotor-cuff in his right shoulder. They did come om to Church, but the whole service he could feel more and more pain in his shoulder. He may have to have surgery very soon.

Buda Courter is showing great improvement and is to be transferred to a rehab place today or tomorrow.

Today, in my devotions I was impressed with the four verses in Exodus 13 that states that with”the strength of His hand” the Lord brought the Israelites out of Egypt (verses 3, 9, 13, & 16). They were not delivered by their own strength; rather they were delivered only by the strength of the Lord. Thus it is with our salvation. Jonah said: “Salvation is of the Lord.” (Jonah 2:9). How true that exclamation by Jonah is. Our salvation was accomplished entirely by what Christ accomplished at Calvary—not by anything we could do in our own strength. “Hallelujah! What a Savior!”

We will look forward to seeing you next Sunday in the services at Harvest Baptist Church.

Yours and His,

Pastor Nelson

God gave us good services on Sunday. Sickness seemed to hit several of our families. We did have visitors, for which we thank the Lord.

Pastor Josh preached a very effective message in the Evening Service from 1 John 3.

Sandwiched in between our services, Pastor Josh, the Deacons, and I met with the Contractor, Terry Stark, and and a Missionary Church Builder. The Missionary Tom Rickard, a man supported as a missionary by several churches with his ministry being that of doing construction work for churches in need of help. Brother Stark and Brother Rickard told us some things we had to do, the main one being we needed to clean up the “warehouse” room so that an engineer could view the walls . We are having a construction engineer come soon with our architect to examine our present foundation and stud walls. So we are getting a start in our Building Program. On Monday[the following men cleaned up in the warehouse room and pulled off some sheet rock for the engineer to b able to see the bottoms of the studs in the walls: Chuck Johnson,. Glenn Lamoreaux, Pastor Musgrave, Paul Nelson, and I. We did get a lot of work done and rather quickly, I thought.

On Saturday, October 17th we will have a work day where we can strip the dry wall off the walls. Beginning tomorrow we will have a roll-off dumpster sitting on the property to receive all the trash we are going to have.

We will look for young people to attend tomorrow night our youth and children’s ministries. Thursday is our Mid Week Service at 7:00 P.M. when I will be speaking again on Psalm 23.

And we will look forward to seeing you net Sunday.

Don’t forget our BIG day on Sunday, October 18. We are endeavoring to set a a record attendance of 75. Please plan to be with us and also be inviting others to come worship with us to help us reach new families .

Our Scripture Verse for the month of October is:
Prov. 11:30 “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he that winneth souls is wise.”.

Amen! Let’s be busy endeavoring to win souls to Christ.

Yours and His,

Ed Nelson, Pastor

Highlights

Dear Church Family,

What a beautiful to sight to look out at the landscape transformed by the white snow. As I look out the window preparing for tomorrow I can’t stop thinking about the sacrifice that Jesus made for me to make my sin as white as snow. I pray that you will begin thinking these thoughts today and prepare your heart for tomorrow’s service. We have a very special service planned tomorrow. Our singing will be focused on the sacrifice that Christ made for us on the cross. Maria Barta, one of our newest members, will be singing one of my favorite songs tomorrow, The Look (the lyrics for this song can be found at the bottom of this post). We will conclude the service with our Sacrifice Sunday Offering. In this offering you will be asked to place your financial, as well as time, sacrifice to Christ. It will be a wonderful time of focus on the work of our precious Savior.

I understand that the snow has made it difficult for many to get out; however, I believe that tomorrow’s service is extremely important for our church. We have a quick fellowship after the service tomorrow followed by a presentation of the plans for our new auditorium. If our church is going to move forward on this building project I believe it is vital for us all to be on the same page. We are planing the future of our church tomorrow. We spent the entire month of January building up to this service. I believe this is a critical time for our church body. We have the opportunity to gather together and focus on the sacrifice that Christ made for us on the cross. I pray that you will be here tomorrow to worship together with the body of Christ.

In Christ,

Pastor Josh

The Look

I saw one hanging on a tree in agony and blood

Who fixed His loving eyes on me as near His cross I stood

And never till my dying breath will I forget that look

It seemed to charge me with His death though not a word He spoke

My conscience felt and owned the guilt and plunged me in despair

I saw my sins His blood had spilt and helped to nail Him there

But with a second look He said “I freely all forgive

this blood is for your ransom paid; I died that you might live”

Thus while His death my sin displays for all the world to view

Such is the mystery of grace; it seals my pardon too

With pleasing grief and mournful joy my spirit now is filled

That I should such a life destroy yet live by Him I killed

CHORUS

Forever etched upon my mind is the look of Him who died

The Lamb I crucified and now my life will sing the praise

Of pure atoning grace that looked on me and gladly

took my place
