Pastor’s Corner

Posted by admin On November - 30 - 2009

We had a great day in Church yesterday. We had the first services of our Faith Promise Missions Conference, 2009. The messages by Dr. Bud Steadman were outstanding. Hr challenged us in our Christian lives and in our stewardship to send missionaries to reach a world for Christ.

Our Conference continues this week at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Tonight (Monday) we will have a presentation from Missionary Ben Shore who is planning to leave with his family for Scotland early in 2010. Then we will be blessed with another message from the Word of God brought to us be Dr. Steadman.

There will be no services Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. Next Sunday will be Faith Promise Sunday when we will receive the Faith Promises for Missions in 2010. These promises will determine what this church can do for missions in the next year. We encourage all of you to pray asking God what your part should be in the missions program of Harvest Baptist Church.

The Memorial Service for Janice Waters will be next Saturday, December 5, at 10:00 A.M., in the chapel at Olinger-Andrews, Caldwell Gibson Mortuary, 407 Jerry St., Castle Rock, CO. There will be a viewing connected with this service from 4:00-7:00 P.M., Friday, December 4, at the same Mortuary. We hope all of you can attend this service.

Then do not forget that next Sunday we will have Dr. John Hutcheson speaking at [the followiing services:

9:30 A.M. Adult-Teen Bible Study
10:45 A.M. Morning Service
6:00 P.M. Christmas Cantata at the Event Center, Douglas County Fairgrounds, Castle Rock

Pastor’s Corner

Posted by admin On November - 24 - 2009

We had a good day last Sunday. We had visitor’s and a good attendance. The auditorium was quite full. Pastor Josh and John Ebel were a blessing with a duet in song well- delivered.. The message delivered by Pastor Josh on 1 John 5 was also a real challenge. I had the privilege of preaching Sunday night on The Four Horsemen of Revelation 6.

We are saddened to report that Jan Waters stepped out into eternity at 7:05 P.M., Sunday. During Sunday School on Sunday morning, her husband, Rick, came to inform us she might not be here long. Because Pastor Josh was preaching the Morning Service, my wife and I were able to go the Waters’ home to see Jan right at that time. She was cogent and listened to us read the Scriptures. She responded well, though she was extremely weak. The hospice had decided to have 24 hour hospice care, for they felt her body was shutting down.

Though I said “we are saddened to report” her death, we are also gladdened to say that for her this was a home going. She graduated from this life into the glories of Heaven with the presence of the Lord. Of her it can truly be said” “Absent from the body and present with the Lord.” (2 Cor. 5:8) What a promise and what a blessing to believe it. She is now with the Lord. Her memorial service will be Saturday, December 12. There will be a viewing, I believe, on Friday afternoon, December 11. I do not have the exact timing of these events to give right now. So keep watching this Pastor’s Corner for the exact time in the next day or so. We are thankful for the blessed testimony Jan had through these last difficult days and weeks. She was trusting the Lord and looking forward to going home to be with Him.

This is a great week. On Wednesday night at 7:00 P.M. we have our Annual Thanksgiving Praise Service. This always proves to be a blessing. We will have testimonies of Praise and Thanksgiving. You will enjoy this service. We will have also enjoy singing together many songs of praise. It will be a blessing. In America we still have much for which to thank the Lord. It will be a 70 minute service that you will remember.

And here is another important announcement: Our Missions Conference will begin next Sunday, November 29. At 8:00 A.M., Saturday morning, November 28, we will have a Missions Prayer Breakfast. We would like as many as possible to be with us. Please do come and join with us in praying for our Missionaries and our Missions Conference.

For the Conference we have Dr. Bud Steadman coming to preach. His ministry will be most challenging for us. Let’s make this a great four days of Conference by having our people present in the services. We will feature two missionaries : A family, appointed to serve in Central Asia, and Ben Shore who hopes to leave with his family for Scotland early in 2010.

May God give us all a thankful spirit this week. Keep watching this Pastor’s Corner for further information.

Yours and His,

Ed Nelson, Pastor

Pastor’s Corner

Last Sunday was one of those Sunday-Storm Days on the Front Range of Colorado. We had families unable to make it to church because of the bad roads. Our crowd was down, but the spirit in the services was excellent. We gathered together and rejoiced at the good- ness of God. This morning in my devotions I meditated on the Feast of the Firstfruits in Leviticus 23:9-14. That feast followed the Feast of Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Those two festivals speak of the death of Christ. “Christ, our Passover, is sacrificed for us.” (1 Cor. 5:7) Christ is not only typified in the Passover, but He is also typified as the firstfruits.

“But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.” ( 1 Cor. 15:20 That feast of firstfruits was typical of the fact that those who know the Lord will also be resurrected at the coming of Christ. Here is a great and wonderful promise given in 2 Cor. 4:14: “Knowing that He Who raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.” The truth of the resurrection of the bodies of the believers was pictured to us way back in the day of Moses. What a blessing to know the truth from the Word of God.

Don’t forget that tomorrow, Thursday, November 19, is our day at Harvest Baptist Church for a day of fasting and prayer. We will have a prayer service tomorrow morning at 10:30 A.M. And of course we will have our regular Midweek Service tomorrow evening at 7:00 P.M. As part of that service, Pastor Musgrave is having a teachers’ meeting.

Next Sunday, Pastor Josh Musgrave will bring the Morning Message. He has been speaking often in the Evening Services. But beginning next Sunday we are going to get to hear him often in the Morning Services. On those Sundays (probably twice a month) I will be speaking in the Evening Service. I trust you will be on hand next Sunday Morning to receive the blessing from Pastor Josh’s message. I will be speaking next Sunday evening.

Next Sunday, November 22, we will have boxes in the foyer to receive gifts of food that you people bring to help needy families with Thanksgiving Baskets from the Church. Please do bring the food sometime next Sunday. Thanksgiving will be the following Thursday.

Wednesday, November 25 (Thanksgiving Eve), at 7:00 P.M. we will have our annual Praise and Thanksgiving Service. This service is always a blessing as we hear individuals and families give thanks and praise to God for blessings received. Let’s have a good crowd in attendance on Thanksgiving Eve.What is ahead? Our Faith Promise Missions Conference. This begins Sunday morning, November 29. The Conference continues each night November 29, through Wednesday, December 2. Plan now to attend all the services. The speaker, Dr. Bud Steadman and the missionaries will prove to be a great blessing.

Continue to pray for Jan Waters, Buda Courter, and the Kroekers. I am thankful that we can write that David Head is much improved and has gone back to work.

Again, I encourage all of you to be with us in the services next Sunday. Right now the weather forecast looks good and, maybe, we will not have a repeat of last Sunday’s snow storm.

Let’s be faithful until He comes.

Yours and His,

Ed Nelson, Pastor

Highlights

Dear Church Family,

What a beautiful to sight to look out at the landscape transformed by the white snow. As I look out the window preparing for tomorrow I can’t stop thinking about the sacrifice that Jesus made for me to make my sin as white as snow. I pray that you will begin thinking these thoughts today and prepare your heart for tomorrow’s service. We have a very special service planned tomorrow. Our singing will be focused on the sacrifice that Christ made for us on the cross. Maria Barta, one of our newest members, will be singing one of my favorite songs tomorrow, The Look (the lyrics for this song can be found at the bottom of this post). We will conclude the service with our Sacrifice Sunday Offering. In this offering you will be asked to place your financial, as well as time, sacrifice to Christ. It will be a wonderful time of focus on the work of our precious Savior.

I understand that the snow has made it difficult for many to get out; however, I believe that tomorrow’s service is extremely important for our church. We have a quick fellowship after the service tomorrow followed by a presentation of the plans for our new auditorium. If our church is going to move forward on this building project I believe it is vital for us all to be on the same page. We are planing the future of our church tomorrow. We spent the entire month of January building up to this service. I believe this is a critical time for our church body. We have the opportunity to gather together and focus on the sacrifice that Christ made for us on the cross. I pray that you will be here tomorrow to worship together with the body of Christ.

In Christ,

Pastor Josh

The Look

I saw one hanging on a tree in agony and blood

Who fixed His loving eyes on me as near His cross I stood

And never till my dying breath will I forget that look

It seemed to charge me with His death though not a word He spoke

My conscience felt and owned the guilt and plunged me in despair

I saw my sins His blood had spilt and helped to nail Him there

But with a second look He said “I freely all forgive

this blood is for your ransom paid; I died that you might live”

Thus while His death my sin displays for all the world to view

Such is the mystery of grace; it seals my pardon too

With pleasing grief and mournful joy my spirit now is filled

That I should such a life destroy yet live by Him I killed

CHORUS

Forever etched upon my mind is the look of Him who died

The Lamb I crucified and now my life will sing the praise

Of pure atoning grace that looked on me and gladly

took my place
