Pastor’s Corner

Posted by admin On January - 28 - 2010

I trust that you are having a good week.  This week has been a blessing to Guyla and me.  We have seen some answers to prayer.  That is always a blessing.  God’s word states:  ”Ask and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.”  (John 16:24)   That is true.  There is no joy  in life like the joy of having seen God answer a prayer.  How essential it is that we pray.  Our Prayer tells God that we have recognized that our dependence on Him is absolutely essential.  By praying we have admitted to God the truth we find in John 15:5 where we read:  ”I (Jesus Christ is the Speaker) am the Vine, ye are the branches:  he that abideth in Me, and I in Him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without Me ye ca do nothing.”
Scriptural prayer involves the realization that I can do nothing for the Lord except by His presence and power.  May we each realize that wonderful truth this week.

Lat Sunday was a day of blessing.  We are thankful for the visitors we had in attendance.  Right now, be sure you have your  plans to be with us next Sunday.  I encourage you all to be with us for Sunday School and Church in the morning.  Then plan to return that evening.  Our services are designed to present the truth of the Scriptures so that you can apply them to your daily lives.

David Head has surgery on his knee scheduled for next Tuesday, Feb. 2.  But he has problems beyond the knee surgery.  He has no sensory feeling on either leg from his mid-calf down through his feet.  His blood tests show no diabetes.  However, his toes are changing color and look bad.  Yesterday as he visited one of the doctor’s offices, as soon as the doctor touched his toe with gauze, all of the skin on the toe came right off.  So the doctors want to work with him to learn the reason that he has no feeling in his lower legs and feet.   They will be working on that as soon after the surgery as possible.  Please do keep praying for David Head.

Viola Wall is doing well in Brookside Inn as she has therapy after her hospitalization.  She has an excellent attitude, but does hope she can be home again soon.

Pray that we will see souls saved and believers growing in the Lord.

Remember—The Ron comfort Revival Meetings are March 14-17.  He will speak in both Sunday service and each night , Monday through Wednesday, at 7:00 P.M.   Please put these dates in your schedule.  These will be days of great blessing for Harvest Baptist Church.

Yours and His,

Ed Nelson, Pastor

This is a special request for prayer.

Viola Wall was taken to the hospital yesterday.  She will be in the hospital for two or three days. Her body’s potassium become dangerously low, so she is being treated intravenously at the hospital.  She definitely needs our prayer.

Today, David Head see a neurologist for special nerve tests on his leg and foot.  The operation scheduled for Feb. 2 is still planned.  But they are continuing with the tests.

Pastor’s Corner

Posted by admin On January - 13 - 2010

Last Sunday we had another encouraging day at Harvest Baptist Church. The auditorium was comfortably filled until the children’s church was taken out. Pastor Josh delivered a very good sermon with an emphasis on the need for the new birth through faith in Christ in His death and resurrection..

We are having our annual Meeting in our Mid-Week Service on Thursday this week. I encourage all of our people to attend this service.

And we are looking forward to next Sunday’s services. We are thrilled to see the Auditorium filled on Sunday and trust that will be the case again next Sunday. We now have a new Homebuilders’ Class during Sunday School. Pastor Musgrave is the teacher. I believe all of parents who attend this class will receive good Bible training to be a blessing in the home.

We are getting close to the time when we will be sending in the Application to the Foundation for hep with our new building program. We trust it can be sent to the Foundation by next week. Do pray that God’s will will be done.

David Head continues to suffer great pain and he is still waiting for a date to be set for his needed surgery.

Remember—we believers need to keep “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ.” (Titus 2:13) A good passage o meditate on concerning this is Mark 13:35-37: “Watch ye therefore: for ye know when the Master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cock crowing, or in the morning: lest coming suddenly He find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say unto all, ‘Watch’ “.

Highlights

Dear Church Family,

What a beautiful to sight to look out at the landscape transformed by the white snow. As I look out the window preparing for tomorrow I can’t stop thinking about the sacrifice that Jesus made for me to make my sin as white as snow. I pray that you will begin thinking these thoughts today and prepare your heart for tomorrow’s service. We have a very special service planned tomorrow. Our singing will be focused on the sacrifice that Christ made for us on the cross. Maria Barta, one of our newest members, will be singing one of my favorite songs tomorrow, The Look (the lyrics for this song can be found at the bottom of this post). We will conclude the service with our Sacrifice Sunday Offering. In this offering you will be asked to place your financial, as well as time, sacrifice to Christ. It will be a wonderful time of focus on the work of our precious Savior.

I understand that the snow has made it difficult for many to get out; however, I believe that tomorrow’s service is extremely important for our church. We have a quick fellowship after the service tomorrow followed by a presentation of the plans for our new auditorium. If our church is going to move forward on this building project I believe it is vital for us all to be on the same page. We are planing the future of our church tomorrow. We spent the entire month of January building up to this service. I believe this is a critical time for our church body. We have the opportunity to gather together and focus on the sacrifice that Christ made for us on the cross. I pray that you will be here tomorrow to worship together with the body of Christ.

In Christ,

Pastor Josh

The Look

I saw one hanging on a tree in agony and blood

Who fixed His loving eyes on me as near His cross I stood

And never till my dying breath will I forget that look

It seemed to charge me with His death though not a word He spoke

My conscience felt and owned the guilt and plunged me in despair

I saw my sins His blood had spilt and helped to nail Him there

But with a second look He said “I freely all forgive

this blood is for your ransom paid; I died that you might live”

Thus while His death my sin displays for all the world to view

Such is the mystery of grace; it seals my pardon too

With pleasing grief and mournful joy my spirit now is filled

That I should such a life destroy yet live by Him I killed

CHORUS

Forever etched upon my mind is the look of Him who died

The Lamb I crucified and now my life will sing the praise

Of pure atoning grace that looked on me and gladly

took my place
